A2 · Section 1 of 10
Yesterday: ho mangiato…
Say what you did, using ho + done-word.
Most everyday verbs (mangiare, prendere, vedere) form the past with ho / hai / ha + the done-word. It is the fastest way to start telling stories.
ho mangiato una pizza
(oh mahn-jah-toh oo-nah peet-tsah)
= I ate a pizza
ho preso un caffè
(oh preh-zoh oon kahf-feh)
= I had a coffee
ho visto Marco
(oh vee-stoh mar-koh)
= I saw Marco
ieri
(yeh-ree)
= yesterday
Common mistake
✗ ho mangiava
✓ ho mangiato
After ho / ha the verb ends in -ato / -uto / -ito, never an ordinary ending.
