Yesterday: sono andato…

Use sono + done-word for going and coming.

Movement verbs (andare, venire, uscire) and essere take sono / sei / è in the past, and the ending follows who did it: -o for a man, -a for a woman.

• sono andato al bar

  (soh-noh ahn-dah-toh ahl bahr)

  = I went to the bar (said by a man)

• sono andata al bar

  (soh-noh ahn-dah-tah ahl bahr)

  = I went to the bar (said by a woman)

• siamo usciti tardi

  (syah-moh oo-shee-tee tahr-dee)

  = we went out late
